High-Rise Window Cleaning

High-Rise Window Cleaning:

The window cleaning industry uses the rope descending system (RDS) method.  The use of the RDS requires specific training, experience, and insurance.  Used correctly, RDS are safe, becoming more popular, and used regularly by fire fighters, search and rescue teams, and rock climbers.  Window cleaners have been using the RDS method since the late 1950’s.  OSHA however did not start regulating the practice until 1991.  In 2001 the American National Safety Standard (ANSI) and International Window Cleaning Association (IWCA) produced a safety publication to raise the level of safety in the window cleaning industry.  Today RDS is strictly regulated, and requires OSHA compliance from both building managers and window cleaning companies.
